Optus and Vodafone Mobile Phone Expansion Project

This project involved the installation of 2G/3G BTSs both internally and externally extending over 220 sites. This included installation and upgrading the existing backbone microwave network and VSAT Installations to enable remote coverage in Western Australia and South Australia.

Our biggest challenges included tight completion timeframes, solved by ramping up resources, including employing a number of young Trainee Technicians.
A further challenge of this regional project was distance and isolation – resolved through our strong reporting process and robust system and processes.

ND Satcom (ESA PITC / New Norcia)

These installations include the original installation of LAN and backbone equipment infrastructure to support international communications linking ESA New Norcia to ESA control centre in Darmstadt in Germany, PITC in Perth and other ESA international Control Centres. This provides to facility if complete monitoring and control of the New Norcia facility from any other centre.

The New Norcia station, Deep Space Antenna 1 (DSA-1), hosts a 35-metre deep-space antenna with transmission and reception in both S- and X-band and is located 140 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia, close to the town of New Norcia. DSA-1 is designed for deep-space satellite missions and provides daily support to Mars Express, Rosetta and Venus Express for routine operations.

We have since provided support for the upgrades and modifications to working systems. These have involved removing live equipment, installation, testing and cutover for continuance of service.

We have installed and tested True net Panels, LAN cables, Optic Fibre cable, LDF-450 MER and ACO panels. We completed this job to a high and professional standard by:

  • installation and termination of infrastructure cables between terminals
  • termination and certification of infrastructure cable
  • installation of hardware
  • providing the documentation and test results

Telstra Mobile Phone Expansion Project

Our work on this project involved the installation of 2G/3G RBS, both internals and externals, for 250 sites. This included installing and upgrading the backbone microwave network and recovery of the Telstra CDMA Network and site upgrade works. As Westcom Consulting were not part of the initial installation project our ability to independently inspect, test and rectify outstanding issues in the Telstra Next G Network became of paramount importance to the Customer during this project.
